Together with experts across IKEA, ranging from designers to engineers, Emelie is anchoring a variety of initiatives in product development and communication at IKEA to make for a safer life at home. It’s a journey fuelled not least by the ambition to address a serious industry-wide safety issue: furniture tip-overs.
A result of a shifted centre of gravity in anything from tall narrow furniture or a low, sturdy chest of drawers filled with heavy things, furniture tip-overs can put both children and adults in their vicinity at risk of harm. And though all IKEA storage furniture is safe to use when anchored to the wall as per assembly instructions, Emelie and the team are dedicated to make them even safer by design.
“If there’s a problem in the home, we at IKEA want to take the lead in understanding and addressing it in our product development”, says Emelie. “Using our insights in life at home, we’re working towards an ambition of nobody getting harmed by an IKEA storage furniture tipping over, whether it’s a bookcase or a shoe shelf in any room of the home”.
