Exeter’s Jon Baker bought the business in August 2021 from Daryll and Sandy Keller, who owned the business for 26 years. Daryll remains as the company’s head estimator.

Baker, who runs Baker Holdings Corporation, and whose company does property management in multi-residential and commercial property in Exeter, Clinton, Seaforth and Grand Bend, said he bought Innovative Flooring because it is complementary to some of the other aspects of the real estate and construction aspects of his business, which he started in 2018, a year before getting his real estate license. In addition to Innovative Flooring at 309 Main St., Baker houses his offices in a unit next door.

Innovative Flooring has a wide variety of flooring styles available, including hardwood, vinyl, laminate, carpet and ceramic from major suppliers, as well as a new lighting section, countertops and more. Baker said he’s trying to provide a one-stop shopping location for people who are designing a home and to provide them with as many options as possible.

Baker said he has just under 7,000 sq. ft. at Innovative Flooring and he did about $250,000 in renovations to the building, which took about five months. Baker said he wanted to offer customers a space that is bright and inviting, and that had enough room for display options. He’s also expanded the staff at the business.

He said things have gone very well since he bought the business, and a grand opening was held at the end of April for contractors and customers. As reported last week, the business made donations to the South Huron Hospital Foundation and the Exeter Community Food Bank.

He said feedback from customers has been “all positive” so far.

Baker said Innovative Flooring covers the area from London to north of Goderich and from the Lake Huron shoreline to Stratford. They provide service to all different styles of buildings from commercial to residential, new builds to renovations, churches, recreation, offices and more.

“A big thing we provide is our customer service … Our main focus is our clients and our customers that are coming in here. We want to provide them with the absolute highest level of care, so at the end of the day when their space or their renovation is done they’re nothing but happy and they’re coming back to us for the next one.”

Baker also expressed his happiness that Daryll Keller has stayed on with the business.

“He’s been amazing,” Baker said. “Daryll and Sandy had a great business. Everything we hear is all positive.”

Baker said the company has a lot of repeat customers who have dealt with Daryll in the past.

“Daryll has been amazing to deal with through the transition and we hope that he stays on as long as possible.”
